Shortly after arriving into the UK and missing the sun we decided to take a little trip to Barcelona for a couple of days. Its nice to not wake up with frost in the mornings 🙂 After spending a couple of days in London we flew from Heathrow to Barcelona, there are some good deals if you look around and are flexible with dates and times.
Barcelona seems to be the Gluten Free mecca of Europe so most of the trip was spent hiking between gluten free establishments and the beach. We stayed in the Gracia district which seems to have a lot of start up/young businesses that have good coffee and stylish goods. There does seem to be an issue with tourists and AirBNB causing some distortions in the local prices so residents feel like they are being priced out of the city, there were a few posters around with “Tourists Go Home” printed on them……probably coming soon to Vancouver.
There is a lot of Gaudi architecture around the city, which gives it a distinct style and the old gothic centre has tight winding streets with no traffic so its great to walk around and browse the stores. We pretty much walk the whole of the city, visit some beautiful churches (got kicked out of the cathedral for wearing shorts), spent some time people watching at the beach
